About Me!

Hi! My name is Kara Chatterton and I am a 4th year at The University of California, Santa Barbara pursuing a B.A. in Biology from the College of Creative Studies with a minor in Professional Writing on the Science Communication Track.

My love for writing traces back to my earliest memories. As a child, I’d pour out tale upon tale onto my mom’s clunky desktop computer, spinning out new fantasies born from my imagination. Fast forward to high school, and the allure of biology captured my attention. I found new passions in learning the intricacies of cell communication, conducting experiments on mealworm behavior, and exploring genetics through punnett squares. Writing, once my primary passion, took a backseat as I delved into the new world of biology.

Yet, like most paths, mine wasn’t linear and I found my passion for writing once again. This time it was in the halls of UC Santa Barbara during my sophomore year that I rediscovered the joy of crafting narratives and the power of effective communication. As I've advanced in my undergraduate education, I have learned the pivotal importance of science writing in bridging the gap between the public and professionals.
